Jharkhand News: DC reviews child protection services in East Singhbhum

Jamshedpur, March 4: Deputy Commissioner (DC) of East Singhbhum Ananya Mittal today reviewed the functioning of Childline, CWC, Observation Home and One Stop Centre.

During the review meeting held at the conference room of the District Collectorate, the DC gave necessary directives on corrective measures.

The DC reviewed all the components working under the Mission Vatsalya Yojana, including District Child Protection Unit, Child Welfare Committee, Juvenile Justice Board, Child Helpline and One Stop Center.

Deputy Development Commissioner Aniket Sachan, District Social Welfare Officer Sandhya Rani, DCPO and various NGO representatives were present.

The meeting reviewed services such as the rights and protection of children, children with single guardians and orphans to be covered with schemes, houses/ women’s accommodation, legal aid, counseling and police assistance were reviewed through forest stop centers.

Addressing Child Protection Challenges

Also, discussions were held regarding child line activities and their problems. At the same time, along with Mission Vatsalya Yojana, Foster Care Scheme, Child Protection Policy, providing education to children living on the road, child labour, child business, child marriage, child protection, Posco Act, Teenage Justice Act and other laws related to children were discussed.

The DC directed all the stakeholders to play an active role in the safety and overall development of adolescents living under special circumstances. It is the responsibility of all to not only work in the educational development of such children but also towards their mental, social and emotional welfare, he said.

Strengthening Child Protection and Community Engagement

The DC further went on to say that the child living in the slum should also take initiative towards connecting with education. He also directed that children who are found to be begging should be counselled along with their parents. The DC said that child protection is very important, for this, everyone needs to work in a collaborative spirit.

The meeting emphasized on developing collaborative strategies on issues related to child protection, facilitating communication with stakeholders on issues related to child protection, strengthening child protection framework and establishing inter-divisional coordination on issues related to child protection.
