Dhanbad, Oct 5: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of Dhanbad identified nine minor orphans on Saturday—four girls and five boys—who will now receive a monthly scholarship of ₹4,000 until they reach the age of 18.
These children live with their relatives and are enrolled at Hirapur Middle School. Despite their young age, they have been working in shops after school hours to cope with financial challenges.
Special DLSA team identified children for scholarship
Recognising their plight, a special team was set up by Principal District and Sessions Judge Ram Sharma, who also serves as the DLSA chairman, to identify and provide support to these children.
Following their identification, the DLSA Chairman directed the authorities to take swift action.

Senior Division Judge and DLSA Secretary Rakesh Roshan ordered the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairman, Uttam Mukherjee, and the principal of Hirapur Middle School to present the children before the DLSA.
After reviewing their cases, it was announced that the children will be given a ₹4,000 monthly scholarship under a state government scheme until they turn 18.
Despite the financial hardships, all nine minors expressed their desire to continue their education. The monthly scholarship is expected to ease their financial burdens and allow them to focus on their studies.
DLSA’s Vatsalya Yojana initiative
The DLSA has been actively involved in rescuing and supporting orphaned and vulnerable children through its ‘Vatsalya Yojana’ in collaboration with the CWC.
So far, the initiative has rescued more than two dozen boys and girls, providing them a stable pathway to continue their education and improve their lives.
