Dhanbad, Sept 21: In a breakthrough before the Durga Puja festival, Dhanbad police have recovered 16 stolen motorcycles and arrested five members of a bike-lifting gang, including two minors.

Gang Admits to Stealing Over 40 Motorcycles

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar said the arrested accused confessed their involvement in organised crime. They revealed that they had stolen more than 40 motorcycles from markets in Dhanbad and Bokaro districts and sold them at low prices.

“This is the highest-ever recovery of stolen bikes in Dhanbad district. Earlier in July, police had recovered eight motorcycles,” the SSP told reporters.

Two Arrested During Routine Inspection

The operation began when police, during a routine inspection on Hirak Road near Muraidih, intercepted two youths riding a motorcycle. Upon interrogation, they admitted that the bike was stolen. They were identified as Rohit Kumar Barnbal and Raj Chouhan.

Raids Lead to Major Recovery

Based on their information, police conducted raids at multiple locations and recovered 16 stolen motorcycles. Another accused, Ranjit Yadav, along with two minors, was also arrested with a stolen bike. “Raids are continuing to recover other motorcycles,” SSP Kumar added.

Joint Operation by Police Teams

The recovery was made possible through a coordinated effort by several police officers, including Katras Circle Inspector Mukesh Choudhary, Barora Police Station In-charge Sadhan Kumari, Sonardih OP In-charge Dilip Pal, Madhuban Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shubham Kumar, Baghmara Police Station In-charge Ajit Kumar, Hariharpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rahul Jha, Tetulmari Police Station In-charge Vivek Choudhary, and other officials.
