Dhanbad, July 12: In a major crackdown on vehicle theft, Dhanbad police recovered six stolen motorcycles and arrested three habitual bike lifters from the Nirsa area near the Jharkhand-Bengal border. The arrests were made during a late-night vehicle checking operation on Thursday.
Nirsa Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajat Manik Bakhala informed the media that the arrested individuals have been identified as Vijay Mahto alias Haribol Mahto of Baliapur block, Bitoo Mahto alias Vikash Mahto of Chirkunda, and Rokey Yadav of Nirsa.
Another accused, Umesh Mahto of Baliapur, managed to flee the scene, abandoning his motorcycle in the darkness.

Special Vehicle Checking Drive Leads to Arrests
Acting on instructions from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar, a special late-night checking drive was conducted on the Pindrahat–Kaliasol main road under Kalubathan Police Station.
During the inspection, two motorcycle riders were intercepted. While Vijay Mahto was apprehended along with a stolen vehicle, Umesh Mahto took advantage of the darkness and escaped on foot, leaving his bike behind.
During interrogation, Vijay Mahto confessed to stealing the motorcycle. Based on his statement, police launched raids in various locations and recovered four more stolen bikes.

The six recovered two-wheelers include:
- Hero Passion Pro (JH10BG4385)
- An unregistered Splendor (engine no. 01c18E11533)
- Hero Splendor Pro (JH10AW8040)
- Hero Glamour (JH10BX1805)
- An unregistered Bajaj Platina
- A black Hero Splendor (without registration details)

Police Team and Previous Recoveries
The operation was carried out by a joint team including Inspector Nitish Kumar Mishra (Kalubathan PS), Inspector Prabhat Ranjan Rai (Panchet PS), Sub-Inspectors Arun Kumar, Dubraj Mahli, Santosh Kumar, Sakendra Ram, and Giriwar Ram.
SDPO Bakhala added that last month, Dhanbad police had recovered eight stolen motorcycles from different parts of the district, as part of their ongoing campaign against vehicle theft.
