IIT ISM Dhanbad's Flower Show

Dhanbad, February 3: Dr Rita Mahto and Debkinkar Dey were declared overall champion and runner-up in the IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad annual flower show held at the Oval Garden today.

Prof. Dhiraj Kumar, deputy director, Prof. A.R. Dixit Dean(Infra) and Prabodh Pandey, registrar, IITISM, jointly inaugurated the show.

This year, 71 entries were received, out of which 44 were from IIT(ISM) and 27 were from Dhanbad City.

Potted flowering plants

The organiser said the competition was divided into several categories: potted flowering plants, ornamental flowering plants, cactus & succulent, bonsai, flower arrangement, institutional, and individual gardens.

In individual garden categories within the IITISM campus, 28 entries were received, further divided into three subcategories: ground, balcony and roof garden.

In the ground category, Veena Pandey and Sweety Prit secured 1st place, and Seema Acharya, Rahul Kumar, Gajendra Singh, and Sumit Kumar secured 2nd place. Ram Manohar, Sanjeeb Mukherjee, Purnima Nayak, Kamalesh Biswas and Neru Kumari confirmed 3rd place.

IIT ISM deputy director inaugurates the flower show competition

Balcony category

In the Balcony category, Prof. Sowmiya Chawla secured 1st place, Kabita Mallick Sangita Mishra secured 2nd place, and Ashmi Chakraborty Das, Prof. Biswajit Chowdhury, and Madumita Mandal secured 3rd place.

Roof garden category

In the roof garden category, Ranjeeta Yadav secured 1st place. Devesh Karmakar secured 3rd Place.

Institutional category

In the institutional category, three institutions participated, including CSIR-CIMFR Dhanbad, CIMFR Digwadih, and Tata Steel Jharia Division; CSIR-CIMFR Dhanbad secured 1st place, Tata Steel Jharia secured 2nd place, and CIMFR Digwadih secured 3 rd place.

The King of Cut Flower was rewarded to Rakesh Kumar Mahto, and the Queen of Cut Flower was rewarded to Kaushik Konar in a flower show competition.

The judges were Prof. S.K.Maiti, R.P.Das, Prof. A.R. Dixit, Dean (Infrastructure) – Chairperson of the flower show committee, Prof.Gauri Shankar, Deptt. of Electrical Engineering Rajan Chaudhary, deputy registrar Mahesh Ingilela, Mritiunjay Sharma, Shivram, Indrajit Sarkar, TS, Mechanical Dr Dhiraj Kumar.
