Jamshedpur, Oct 9: Acting on the directives of the state health department, the East Singhbhum Drug Control Department has launched a comprehensive inspection drive across Jamshedpur to ensure the quality and authenticity of medicines being sold in the market.
During the surprise inspections conducted in various localities, officials collected samples of 13 different medicines from multiple pharmacies for laboratory analysis.
The move aims to identify and eliminate the circulation of spurious, substandard, or expired drugs that could pose serious health risks to consumers.

According to official sources, the samples have been sent to the state drug testing laboratory in Ranchi. Once the reports are received, strict action will be taken against any pharmacy or supplier found violating the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
Officials said that the department is intensifying its vigilance to protect public health. “Our objective is to ensure that only genuine and approved medicines reach the patients. Any irregularity will invite strict legal action, including cancellation of licenses,” the officer said.
The inspection drive also focused on verifying pharmacists’ licenses, maintaining proper billing records, and checking storage conditions—especially for temperature-sensitive medicines such as antibiotics, vaccines, and insulin.
