Dumka, August 11: Dumka police have busted an organised bike-lifting gang, recovering seven stolen motorcycles and arresting three of its members. Raids are underway to nab the remaining accomplices.
Jarmundi SDPO Amit Kachhap said that during a special checking drive at Thana Gate, police spotted five men riding three motorcycles without number plates. On seeing the police, they attempted to flee, but three were caught while two managed to escape.

The arrested have been identified as Ajay Choudhary (20), Rajesh Kumar Gupta (40) and Virendra Ray (22). During interrogation, they admitted to stealing seven motorcycles over the past 10 months and selling some to others. Based on their information, police recovered all seven stolen bikes from different locations in the district.

The SDPO said bike theft cases had been reported from various police stations in Dumka. Following the SP’s directives, a district-wide checking drive was launched. On Sunday evening, a tip-off led to the interception of the gang members. Four of the stolen bikes were recovered during the follow-up operation.

The operation was led by Jama Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ajit Kumar, Inspector Sanjay Kumar, and Sub-Inspector Madhusudan Prasad.
