Jamshedpur, Sept 4: In observance of World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, Jeevan, Suicide Prevention Centre, Jamshedpur, spearheaded a series of awareness initiatives in the city.

Two educational institutions—RMS School, Khutadih, and DBMS College of Education—mobilized students and staff in a rally to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. A total of 240 participants took to the streets, with 150 from RMS School and 90 from DBMS College, accompanied by dedicated volunteers from Jeevan.

Importance of mental health

Participants carried placards with powerful messages and chanted slogans emphasizing the importance of mental health, aiming to break the stigma surrounding it. Handbills containing the contact information for Jeevan’s helpline were distributed among bystanders, encouraging those in need to reach out for help.

Rally on September 10

The rallies are just the beginning of a series of planned events across the city. On September 6, Dayanand Public School and JUSCO School Kadma will hold their rallies, followed by DBMS Career Academy and Vivek Vidyalaya, TELCO, on September 9. Arka Jain University will culminate the campaign with a rally on September 10, aligning with World Suicide Prevention Day.

Jeevan, a recognised pillar of support in the region, has consistently provided compassionate assistance to individuals grappling with mental health issues. The organisation stresses the crucial role of community involvement in promoting mental well-being and urges every citizen of Jharkhand to actively contribute to this cause.

Confidential and judgment-free helpline

For those facing mental health challenges or in need of emotional support, Jeevan offers a confidential and judgment-free helpline service, available every day from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The helpline, which operates throughout the year, ensures a safe space for individuals to seek help. Jeevan’s services are entirely free of charge, and the helpline numbers are 9297777499 and 9297777500.
