Daltonganj, February 18: An eye health camp for the tribal community was held at the village Serendag under the limits of the tiger reserve Palamu.

It was a joint venture of an NGO SESA, PTR and One Sight Essilor Luxottica Foundation.

140 get a free eye test

A senior functionary of the SESA, Jasbir Bagga, said around 140 people turned up at this free eye health checkup camp.

Experienced ophthalmologist assistants like Amrender Kumar, S S Sahu and others tested the eyes of people over 40.

An ophthalmologist assistant is writing Power of Glass for a tribal lady.

Reading glasses

Bagga said reading glasses were given free and on the spot. As for people having near-sight or long-sight errors, their power of glasses has been noted down, and within a month or so, these people will get their powered glasses-free.

PTR management

Deputy director of the North Division of PTR P K Jena said, “The PTR management is committed to providing all possible help to people living in and around the tiger reserve, be it their health or education.”

“This eye health camp is one of the series. Our forest guards and trekkers had done canvassing among the local populace about this free eye health checkup camp at Serendag,” said Jena.

The eye health camp has generated awareness of how to protect one’s eyes and notice any refraction error in sighting.

Setting refraction error is the first step to keep cataract surgery at bay.
