Daltonganj, August 6: The false ceiling of the blood storage room of the blood bank in the MMCH fell on the ground very recently.

No one was hurt. The incident occurred pre-midnight. There was neither any seeker nor any donor of blood then.

The blood storage room is 10 feet wide and 12 feet long only. This blood bank building became functional in the year 2006. This building was renovated in the year 2019. This false ceiling was fixed in 2019 itself, said the senior lab technician, Anwar Alam.

Blood bank is a ground-floor building

“Two days’ heavy rains caused this falling off the false ceiling. The blood bank is a ground-floor building only. Its roof seeps even in ordinary rains,” said Anwar Alam.

The guard was safe as he was at another location in the building. It was the guard who first broke the news of the false ceiling falling.

Civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said, “Barring AC and room light which got badly damaged, the blood storage refrigerator remained undamaged”.

There were 150 filled blood bags in the refrigerator which remained “unjerked” at the time the false ceiling fell off added the civil surgeon.

The blood storage refrigerator is fully functional said senior lab technician Alam.

Blood bank is fully functional

He said, “As the debris was collected and cleared at the night itself, the blood bank is fully functional and doing its business as usual.”

There is another problem with the blood bank.  Drug addicts steal copper wires from the ACs here. The addicts sell the costly copper wires for any little price that can give them money to buy drugs in a few grams.

Sources said copper wires of at least three ACs have been stolen in the past two weeks. Its replacement is costly besides the cost of fixing to it as well.

The blood bank officials are now getting the copper wires covered with the plaster.
