Dhanbad, Dec 5: A massive fire broke out at a trash godown in Jharia’s Singh Nagar under Jharia police station, reducing scrap materials and plastic bottles worth several lakhs of rupees to ashes on Friday.

According to police, three fire tenders were deployed, and the blaze was brought under control after nearly six hours of continuous firefighting. The godown was packed with rejected scrap and large quantities of plastic bottles, which fueled the fire rapidly.

Godown operator Deepak Saw, a resident of Dhanbad, said that he rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the fire and informed Jharia police as well as the local fire department. However, by the time fire tenders arrived, the flames had already intensified.

He added that the extent of damage is being assessed, but initial estimates suggest that goods worth approximately ₹50 lakh were destroyed.

Jharia police station officer-in-charge Shashi Ranjan Kumar stated that fire tenders reached the site promptly and acted swiftly, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby areas.
