Jamshedpur, Nov 21: In a late-night firing incident, a 30-year-old youth was shot dead by two bike-borne criminals at Shastrinagar under Kadma thana area in the steel city, triggering sensation.

The gunshot victim was identified as Mohammed Tauqir alias Gora, a resident of Block No. 2 in Shastrinagar.

The murder victim was a member of the Mardana Gang and was accused in a number of criminal cases registered against him. A month ago, he was released on bail from the Ghaghidih Central Jail.

The gun-shot attack took place on Thursday at about 10.30 pm when Tauqir was standing near the Jhopra Masjid at Block No 3.

As he was standing leisurely near the mosque, two bike-borne assailants came there and attacked him.

First, one of the two hit the victim with a chopper, and subsequently, another assailant fired at him repeatedly, causing him to fall down.

As it was a calm winter night, the commotion stemmed from the attack, and the sounds of firing had rattled the atmosphere. Soon, residents of that densely populated area rushed to the spot to find Tauqir lying in a pool of blood. They then rushed the victim to Tata Main Hospital, where the doctors on emergency duty declared him as brought dead.

A police party from the Kadma thana reached the spot within minutes and began investigating the firing incident. Later, City SP, Kumar Shivashish, also arrived at the crime scene and instructed his subordinates to collect CCTV footage for the identification of the assailants.
