Dhanbad, March 8: Atal Community Innovation Centre (ACIC) Foundation, IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM), on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Friday, felicitated three women of Self Help Group (SHG) leaders.

Gayatri Pattanayak, president of the Dipti Ladies Club of IIT (ISM), was the chief guest at the function held at the campus’s Golden Jubilee Lecture Theatre. She felicitated Neha Devi, Baby Devi and Suvia Mohli, who have excelled in their respective fields despite facing various challenges.

The organiser said that in addition to the trio, four women entrepreneurs supported by ACIC and two women employees of the institute were also felicitated.

Chief guest Gayatri Pattanayak, while addressing the function, differentiated between good and bad parenting and elaborated on how pampering children at an early stage of life spoils their future.

Aruna Tirkey, director of Azam Emba Private Limited, who was also present during the function as guest of honour, encouraged the women to excel in their respective fields of self-employment and not hesitate to take risks in life.

Tirkey, a rural development professional who launched her 1st restaurant of tribal traditional recipes in Ranchi in 2016, is now well known across the country and abroad for the revival of age-old tribal cuisine, and over 100 women are directly associated with her.

Dr Akansha Sinha, chief executive officer of ACIC IIT (ISM) Foundation, said that her organisation deals with 5000 farmers and forest produce collectors.

“ACIC IIT ISM Foundation has conducted the program to encourage prospective women entrepreneurs, and by felicitating the SHG leaders, we are setting examples for the other women to be self-reliant,” she said. The ACIC IIT (ISM) Foundation manager, Camelia Chaudhary, was also at the function.
