Dhanbad, March 30: IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad established its supremacy again in the country by bagging the ‘Best Institute Award in the New Generation Ideation Contest ’23 for providing the most ideas.

HPCL Green R&D and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bangalore, jointly conducted the New Generation Ideation Contest 2023. More than 600 ideas were submitted nationwide, including all IITs, NITs, CFTIs, and state universities.

The maximum number of shortlisted ideas were from IIT (ISM) and Dhanbad’s institute was adjudged the overall winner.

Prof Alok K. Das, Dean Innovation Incubation Entrepreneur (IIE) and Prof. Ejaz Ahmad, Faculty in-charge cum Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy (SRIC), received the award on behalf of the institute from the Executive Director (R&D) of HPCL at the ceremony held at HP Green R&D centre.

Besides the Best Institute Award, IIT ISM’s M tech 2nd year Fuel Minerals and Metallurgical Engineering (FMME) student Prajjwal Chaudhary received a Commendation award with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 in the contest. Prajjwal Choudhary won this prestigious award under the guidance of Prof Kesavan Ravi.

The award includes a citation, trophy, and cash prize. Submitting ideas for the New Generation Ideation Contest ’23 began in September 2023, and ideas were submitted until November 2023.

An expert from HPCL Green R&D Centre, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bengaluru, also spoke at IIT (ISM) in October 2023 to encourage students to come up with new and innovative ideas to address modern-day challenges such as rising energy demands, environmental pollution, and growing consumerism.

Circular Economy among six themes

Various innovative ideas were invited from researchers, postgraduate scholars, and undergraduate scholars from across the country for the New Generation Ideation Contest ’23, which had six themes: Circular Economy, Digitalization, Hydrogen, CO2 Capture and Conversion, Petroleum Refining, and Advanced Functional Materials.
