Dhanbad, June 11: IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad began a six-day development programme for senior executives of Coal India Limited (CIL) on Safety and Health Management System Audit.
The programme is being organized by the Department of Mining Engineering, IIT ISM in which 25 senior executive officers of 12 Areas of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (a subsidiary of CIL) are participating.
IIT ISM Director inaugurates programme
IIT ISM Director Sukumar Mishra, the chief guest, inaugurated the six-day programme at the institute’s Executive Development Centre (EDC) and stressed greater safety in mining operations for achieving the objective of Safe, Smart and Sustainable (3 S) mining.
TEXMiN Foundation
Deputy Director Prof Dheeraj Kumar, who is also the Director of TEXMiN Foundation, the Mining Technology Innovation Hub of IIT (ISM), also apprised the participants about the various innovative activities and research being carried out by TEXMiN and its various centres toward achieving 3 S Mining.

Prof RM Bhattacharjee, Dean, of International Relations and Alumni Affairs (IRAA) who is the coordinator of the programme said that field visits and theoretical classes both would be conducted as part of the six-day EDP.
Prof Sagar Pal, Dean (Research) apprised the BCCL executives about the various research activities being carried out at the institute especially the industry-sponsored research in the area of Mining Engineering.
Prof Devi Prasad Mishra, Head of the Department of Mining Engineering, who was also present during the occasion along with Prof PS Paul of his department, gave details of infrastructure, facilities and rich legacy of the Mining Engineering Department of IIT (ISM) established since the inception of the institute.
