Dhanbad, Nov 25: A two-day international conference on “Research and Innovation for Sustainability in Civil Engineering” (RISCE) commenced at BIT Sindri on Monday. The event gathered scholars, researchers, and professionals from across the globe to explore sustainable solutions in the field of civil engineering.
Prof. B Bhattacharya from IIT Delhi was the chief guest and delivered the keynote address, stressing the importance of sustainability and permanent solutions in civil engineering. He shared his valuable insights and experiences on the subject, engaging the audience of eminent scholars and researchers present at the conference.
Perspectives from guest speakers
Guests of honor, Dr. S.K. Das of IIT ISM Dhanbad and Dr. R.P. Sharma, also spoke on the evolving landscape of civil engineering.
They underscored the need to revisit the foundational principles of civil engineering while embracing innovative ideas to tackle modern challenges. By combining time-tested techniques with cutting-edge solutions, they encouraged research scholars to think creatively and make significant contributions to the evolving fields of infrastructure and sustainability.

Focus on sustainability and collaboration
Dr. S.K. Shukla, chairperson of RISCE, highlighted the role of sustainability in addressing global challenges. He stressed the necessity of integrating innovative solutions with traditional practices.
The aim of the conference, he explained, was to foster dialogue and collaboration among experts, academicians, and industry leaders to develop actionable strategies for sustainable growth.
Dr. Pankaj Rai, Director of BIT Sindri and patron of RISCE, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to promoting research and innovation in line with global sustainability goals.
Earlier, Dr. Jitu Kujur, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, BIT Sindri, welcomed the participants, while Dr. B.D. Yadav, Secretary of RISCE, introduced the international conference.
The event was made successful with contributions from several key faculty members, including Prof. Dr. Udai Kumar Singh, Prof. Prafulla Kumar Sharma, Dr. Maya Rajnarayan Ray, Dr. Nishikant Kisku, and others.
