Dhanbad, Dec 12: The Dhanbad cyber police arrested a cybercriminal operating from a rented house in the DGMS colony of the coal city under Sadar police station area on Thursday.
Akshay Kumar Ram, Inspector of the Dhanbad Cyber Police Station, informed the media that the accused, identified as Rupesh Kumar Mahto, had been living on rent in a building owned by Madhukar Sharma.
The arrest came after the cyber police received information through the Pratibimb App in Ranchi about cyber fraud activities in the Dhanbad area. Acting on this tip-off, a team led by Inspector Ram raided Madhukar Sharma’s house in the DGMS colony and apprehended Mahto from his rented room.

Evidence recovered, syndicate names revealed
During the raid, the police seized a mobile phone and SIM card used by the accused for fraudulent activities. Inspector Ram stated that Mahto had been defrauding individuals under the guise of KYC updates and mobile phone recharges. He had been operating for several months, primarily targeting residents of Jamtara while based in Dhanbad.
Under interrogation, Mahto disclosed names of other members of his syndicate involved in similar cybercrimes. Police have launched raids across different districts to apprehend these individuals and dismantle the network.
Rupesh Kumar Mahto, a resident of Barjora village in Mihijam under Jamtara district, is a BSc student who joined the syndicate to earn quick money. Aware of the intensified crackdown on cybercriminals in Jamtara, Mahto relocated to Dhanbad to continue his illegal activities.
