Dhanbad, May 6: Sub-Judge cum District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) secretary Rakesh Roshan has ordered a probe into age verification of some of the juveniles lodged in Dhanbad jail.

The DLSA secretary, who inspected Dhanbad jail first time on Sunday after assuming office, suspected some of the under-trial prisoners below 18 years old while meeting the inmates. He immediately directed the members of the Legal Aid Defence Counsel System (LADCS)  to verify the birth certificates of these prisoners after consulting their family members so that necessary action could be taken.

Sub judge Rakesh Roshan also ordered the jail administration to keep them in separate cells immediately.

The DLSA secretary along with members of LADC inspected Dhanbad jail and assessed the condition of prisoners.

He inspected each barrack of jail; met each prisoner personally and took detailed information about their health, ongoing treatment, facility of lunch –dinner and status of their legal support.

The DLSA secretary during inspection expressed concern over the sanitation condition of washrooms and directed the jail authority for its improvement. He also directed to refer seriously sick prisoners to higher health centres besides providing them with job-oriented special training.

Feed data of women prisoners in computer

Subjudge Rakesh Roshan personally met all 26 convicted and under-trial women prisoners in their cells and heard their problems. All women were found healthy. He directed the jailer to get data of all women prisoners loaded into the computer through Para Legal volunteers. He directed the jail administration to provide them with all facilities they are entitled to get under the law.

Legal awareness camp

Earlier, a Legal Awareness Camp was organized in which Legal Aid Defence Counsel System (LADCS)  chief Judge Kumar Vimelendu and Deputy chief Ajay Kumar Bhatt made prisoners aware about rights of prisoners,  the bail process, Bargaining Plea Act and UTRC scheme of the High Court.
