Ranchi, Jan. 7: Chief Minister Hemant Soren today said that Khadi is not just a dress.
“This symbolises our civilisation, culture, tradition and being indigenous,” he added.
Inaugurating the ‘National Khadi and Saras Mahotsav 2023-24’ at Morhabadi Ground, he said there is a need to strengthen our traditional and indigenous system.
“No matter how much time has progressed, the importance of rural and indigenous systems remains intact in our country and state. Village industries like Khadi are examples of this. We have to take such systems of villages forward at any cost, and we will have to overcome the related challenges. This is not possible only at the government level; for this, every person will have to take the initiative,” he said.

He said that we all know that the great personality and father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, is associated with Khadi, who gave a distinct identity to Khadi in the country and the world. “In such a situation, we all need to join Khadi to further strengthen our traditional rural and indigenous system and take it forward,” he added.
Tradition and culture
The chief minister said that today is the era of materialism and technology. “We live with machines, but despite this, we are moving forward, taking our tradition, culture and civilisation,” he said.
Soren said that organising Khadi and Saras Mahotsav is a part of this series, through which we are preserving our rural-desi traditional and ancestral systems and making today’s generation aware of them.
Palash brand
He said that the government is continuously promoting rural and indigenous products. “In our state, lakhs of didis make various products by joining Sakhi Mandals. No chemicals of any kind are used in these products. These are indigenous products. The government is making the products of these Didis available in the market through the Palash brand so that they can further strengthen their livelihood. For this, people will also have to connect with the products they manufacture,” he added.
