Daltonganj, March 24: The enforcement of the model code of conduct is intense and severe in the Latehar district.
The model code of conduct came into effect on March 16. The Latehar police recovered a lot of cash and narcotics. If calculated in the market context, the recovery is worth over three crores!
Police seize Rs 2.99 lakh
Latehar SP Anjani Anjan told the Jharkhand Story correspondent today, “This intervening night of March 23/ 24, Manika Police intercepted a car at the inter-district check post with Palamu and held Rs 2,99,500. The car occupants could not produce any document or evidence supporting the cash. The case has been referred to the nodal officer of the income tax.”
IT to take a call on seizure
Anjani Anjan added that the car and its occupants were let off. He said the income tax officials would take a call on it, and then a committee would make the final decision on whether to retain it with the administration or release it.
The held-up cash is on the ESMS app, an election seizure management system. All such seizures are to be digitised data on the spot.
This is the first interception of cash in the Palamu zone. Latehar has taken the lead.
Incidentally, SP Anjani Anjan was at the inter-district check post when this interception was made last night.
Haul of narcotics
Latehar police’s haul of narcotics is outstanding.
According to Anjani Anjan, “We have recovered 17 kgs of opium worth Rs 85 lakhs. Again, we recovered 42 kgs of marijuana worth Rs 21 lakhs.”
“Our biggest haul was our recovery of 1690 kgs of opium straw worth more than Rs 2.53 crores,” he added.
All these recoveries are a week since the imposition of the model code of conduct, reiterated Anjani Anjan.
The valuation of the narcotics seized is the pricing for it in the hush market.
Police have recovered four desi pistols and 11 rounds of live fire also since the imposition of the model code of conduct added SP Latehar.
