Jharkhand News: Makeover for Bokaro railway station under Amrit Station Scheme

Jamshedpur, March 29: Bokaro railway station which falls under the South Eastern Railway (SER) zone will soon witness a complete makeover under the Amrit Station Scheme.

Railway officials told The Jharkhand Story that the station building will be built in an iconic contemporary style.

The station plaza will include adequate parking facilities and multi-modal integration enabling smooth traffic flow.

A spacious concourse with world-class facilities and passenger amenities will be constructed along with spaces for retail, cafeterias, comfortable waiting areas, executive lounges etc.

The station will be equipped with a better passenger information system, signages and digital displays for all kinds of travel-related information.

The station will have foot overbridges, lifts and escalators for the comfort of passengers.

The station will provide all kinds of Divyangjan-friendly facilities, free Wi-fi, firefighting arrangements, “One Station One Product” kiosks to promote local products etc.

Significance of Bokaro Steel City Station

Significantly, Bokaro Steel City station assumes significance because of freight movement as well as passenger transportation sectors of Indian Railways as it serves one of the major Industrial areas of the country.

The station has been selected under the “Amrit Station Scheme” by the Indian Railways and will be redeveloped as a world-class station.

Altogether 72 stations of South Eastern Railway across its four divisions in the states of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha have been earmarked for redevelopment under this scheme.

Bokaro Steel City station is also one of the major stations in the Adra division of South Eastern Railway.

It serves the city of Bokaro and the adjacent area which is rich in mineral resources. The station also serves a huge population and is well connected to important railheads. It is surrounded by big industries like the Bokaro Steel plant, thermal power plants, cement factories etc. Bokaro also has a freight loading yard.

Ongoing and Upcoming Development Works

At present, façade development work, VIP Lounge, two and four-wheeler parking, concourse area, entry and exit gate, screen protection on existing Foot Over Bridge, circulating area, surveillance room, electrical sub-station building and other infrastructural works have been completed.

The remaining development works at Bokaro Steel City Station will be completed in a phased manner, ensuring minimal disruption to railway operations while enhancing the overall passenger experience.
