Ranchi, Oct 23: After the Ranchi police revealed the use of foreign-made weapons by local criminal networks, BJP State President and Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi has urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren to order a high-level investigation into the alleged import of arms from Pakistan.

According to the Ranchi Police, a criminal gang operating in the city had procured sophisticated weapons through cross-border channels. Initial investigations suggested that some weapons might have entered India via Punjab’s Moga district, raising serious concerns over national and regional security.

Marandi Alleges Intelligence Failure
Reacting to the police revelations, Marandi accused the state government of compromising security and held the police intelligence system responsible for negligence.
He claimed that crimes in Ranchi and other parts of Jharkhand were being carried out using weapons and ammunition smuggled from Pakistan via drones. These arms, he said, were being used to extort money from businessmen, traders, and industrialists across the state.

Business Community Living in Fear
The Opposition leader alleged that the business community in areas such as Dhanbad, Bokaro, Jamshedpur, and Ranchi was facing rampant extortion. “From street vendors to major establishments, no one is safe,” he stated, adding that several business owners have been forced to close their establishments or leave the state out of fear.
Call for Accountability and Action
Marandi questioned why the police had failed to detect the gang’s activities earlier and suggested that possible internal complicity could not be ruled out.
He urged the Chief Minister to ensure a transparent, high-level probe into the entire episode, holding both the culprits and any negligent officials accountable.
