Daltonganj, Dec 30: The electrical and fire audits of MMCH Daltonganj remain unresolved despite two recent fire incidents.
The first incident occurred on December 14, when a high-flow nasal C-PAP device exploded and caught fire in the SNCU Ward 1. General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) staff member Mamta Trishul and her team acted swiftly, rescuing eight infants from the ward.
The second fire broke out on the night of December 28, involving the external part of a split AC unit in the old operating theatre (OT). Civil Surgeon of Palamu, Dr. Anil Kumar, and his team managed to prevent the fire from spreading.
Challenges in Conducting an Electrical Audit
MMCH Daltonganj has made repeated attempts to secure an electrical audit but continues to face obstacles.
The local electricity division refused to carry out the audit, citing a lack of expertise. Similarly, the Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (JREDA) in Ranchi clarified that they only conduct energy audits, not electrical audits.

Efforts to Resolve the Issue
The Medical Superintendent of MMCH, Dr. Dharmendra Kumar, expressed frustration over the prolonged delays. “I have written to the chief electrical inspector of the Electrical Works Department (EWD) to conduct the electrical audit here,” he stated.
He further added, “It has been almost two weeks, and we are still waiting to hear when the EWD will send its electrical inspector to perform the audit.”
Dr. Kumar reassured that the hospital is actively pursuing both electrical and fire audits, emphasising that there has been no negligence on the part of MMCH.
Fire NoC Valid Until March 2025
Despite the delays, MMCH Daltonganj currently holds a valid fire NoC, which is valid until March 31, 2025. The hospital remains committed to implementing all necessary safety measures and is awaiting the completion of the fire audit.
