Jamshedpur, Oct 3: Chaos erupted in Sakchi’s Sanjay Market on Friday when a mob of over 100 youths suddenly stormed the area near the Hanuman Temple and attacked shopkeepers, leaving several people injured and creating panic across the busy marketplace.

Among the injured were mobile shop owner Nitin Srivastava, garment shop owner Amrit, and his father, who sustained serious injuries.

Nitin’s father, Naresh Srivastava, also suffered minor injuries during the assault.

During the attack, the assailants not only beat up the shopkeepers but also looted Rs 22,000 in cash from Naresh Srivastava.

According to Nitin, he was at his shop when a few youths arrived and began hurling abuses.

Within minutes, more than a hundred men gathered and launched a violent attack.

Eyewitnesses said some of the attackers were armed with pistols and sharp-edged weapons, which spread panic among traders and customers.

Many shopkeepers shut their shops and fled to save their lives.

While most of the attackers managed to flee after the rampage, local shopkeepers courageously caught three assailants and handed them over to the Sakchi police.

Nitin revealed that two days earlier, an argument had taken place between local shopkeepers and the staff of Raj Singh over setting up a shop in the market.

The matter had been resolved with community intervention. However, on Friday, Raj Singh allegedly returned with a large group and carried out the attack as retaliation.

A case has been registered at Sakchi police station, and an investigation is underway. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to prevent any further incidents.

The incident has triggered anger among the business community, who have demanded strict action from the administration.

Locals have raised serious concerns over law and order, pointing out that such daylight armed attacks highlight glaring security lapses in the area.
