Jharkhand News: National Lok Adalat in Dhanbad settles ₹1200 crores in four hours

Dhanbad, Dec 14: In a remarkable achievement, ₹1200 crore was recovered within the first four hours of the final National Lok Adalat of 2024, organized by the Dhanbad District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) on Saturday. During this period, 2.10 lakh pre-litigation disputes were resolved.

Civil Judge and DLSA Secretary Rakesh Roshan, along with Chief Judicial Magistrate Aarti Mala said that the Principal District and Sessions Judge Virendra Kumar Tiwari, who serves as DLSA chairman, had constituted 12 benches to handle various litigation matters during the Lok Adalat.

Officials noted that detailed results of the Lok Adalat would be available after further calculations later in the evening.

The day-long event was inaugurated by Jharkhand Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) Executive Chairman, Justice SN Prasad.

Speaking at the occasion, DLSA Chairman Virendra Kumar Tiwari highlighted the constitutional commitment to delivering social, economic, and accessible justice. He emphasized that Lok Adalats, held quarterly since 2012, have been instrumental in providing affordable and expeditious justice to the people, fulfilling the vision of the Indian Constitution.

Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) Sadat Anwar reiterated that the National Lok Adalat primarily serves the common people, with the district administration collaborating with DLSA to achieve this goal.

City Superintendent of Police Ajit Kumar also emphasized the efficiency of Lok Adalats in resolving disputes quickly, saving both time and money for litigants.

Legal fraternity lauds efforts

Dhanbad Bar Association Vice-President Dhaneswar Mahto commended DLSA for its tireless work in the interest of the common people.

The event witnessed the active participation of key legal professionals and dignitaries, including Principal Judge Family Court T. Hussan, District and Sessions Judge Durgesh Chandra Awasthi, Chief Judicial Magistrate Aarti Mala, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajiv Tripathi, and Railway Magistrate Manoj Kumar.

Other attendees included Civil Judge Anjelina John, Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Abhijit Pandey, 1st Class Judicial Magistrate Wrishi Kumar, Permanent Lok Adalat President Piyush Kumar, and Consumer Forum Member Sipra Dalsa. Panel lawyers Vimlendu Kumar and Ajay Kumar Bhatt were also present.
