VC inspecting Chemistry lab in the GLA College

Daltonganj, Nov 10: Postgraduate labs, be it of physics or chemistry or botany or zoology, all have one thing in common. It’s their miserable condition. If the roof of the lab is in a shamble, the experiment table is as gloomy as the roof.

Worse of all, labs for practicals function twice or thrice a month only.

Dr Sharwan Kumar, head of the postgraduate department of physics, said, “University PG physics students are far more apathetic and indifferent to their attendance in classes in comparison to GLA College PG physics department.”

VC Expresses Displeasure Over Poor Attendance

Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Prof Dinesh Kumar Singh on Monday detoured the labs in the GLA College, who when reached the PG physics lab, had this comment to make: “It’s painful. It’s 3 per cent attendance. I ask my teachers to improve it by even 14 to 15 per cent.”

He suggested the physics teacher to form a WhatsApp group of parents of the students enrolled, requesting parents to send their wards to classrooms every working day.

Labs in Shambles, Function Irregularly

He said the labs need a fresh coat of paint, better light and student-friendly environs. All dysfunctional and non-functional equipment and instruments which are beyond any repair should be shortlisted and suitably discarded for putting them on sale.

The VC was accompanied by the professor in charge of the GLA College Dr Rakesh Kumar who has a habit of making minute observations, as for the entire stretch of time that he spent with the VC, he gave ample time and opportunity to concerned teachers of the science subjects to explain the status of the labs.

A zoology lab was made a classroom where a lady teacher was having a class full of students, mostly girls.

“The roofs of the labs are to be re-strengthened. The dilapidated ones are to be scrapped for a rain-proof concrete pitching in the roof,” suggested the VC.

An RO was found dead, which the VC asked for either repair or for the professor in charge of the GLA College Dr Rakesh Kumar, to take up this RO matter with the SBI branch to bail out the college with a new set of RO under its Corporate Social Responsibility.

Old and disused furniture will be repaired for use in the new PG building.
