Jharkhand News: Notification for ‘Dry Days’ issued in East Singhbhum

Jamshedpur, Nov 6: The District Election Officer, through a circular issued on Tuesday notified dry days in East Singhbhum district between November 11-13, and on the day of counting on November 23.

According to the notification, the dry day would be effective from 5 pm on November 11 to 5 pm of November 13, the poll day and on November 23, the day of the counting of votes.

Voting is scheduled for November 13 in East Singhbhum district. In view of this, Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Ananya Mittal issued the dry days order under relevant sections of the Jharkhand Excise Act.

Other guidelines as per the provision mentioned in Section 135 (c) of the Public Representation Act 1951:

* In any hotel, eateries, schools, shops or any other public or private places within the polling area, during the period of 48 hours ending with the time fixed for the close of the polls, any fermented or intoxicating liquor or of a similar nature any other substance shall not be sold, given away or distributed.

* Any person who contravenes the provisions of sub-section (1) shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with a fine which may extend to two thousand rupees, or with both.

* Where any person is convicted of any offence under this section, any spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquor or other substances of a similar nature found in his possession shall be liable for confiscation.
