PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Dec 10: In a major action against the illegal drug trade, Golmuri police arrested a 28-year-old man with brown sugar during a raid in the Namda Basti area.

The arrested accused, identified as Shubham Singh, is a resident of the same locality.

Police recovered 21 small packets of brown sugar weighing around 3 grams, Rs 500 in cash, and a mobile phone from his possession.

City DSP Sunil Kumar Choudhary said the police had received a tip-off about active brown sugar peddling in Namda Basti.

Acting on the information, a special team from Golmuri police station conducted a raid at House No. 45 on the evening of December 9.

On spotting the police team, Shubham attempted to escape, but he was swiftly overpowered by personnel positioned around the premises.

During a search, the team found multiple sale-ready packets of brown sugar, which were seized on the spot.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had been supplying brown sugar in small packets to local addicts for some time.

Police are now probing the source of the contraband and whether a larger network is involved.
