Jharkhand News: Over 1,500 BCCL vehicles under Transport deptt scrutiny in Dhanbad

Dhanbad, Oct 5: The District Transport Department has launched a major drive against more than 1,500 heavy vehicles operating in Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) coal mines for running without valid documents.

Crackdown on Vehicles with Expired Papers

District Transport Officer (DTO) Diwakar C. Dwivedi said on Sunday that over 1,500 small, medium, and heavy vehicles currently engaged in coal transportation under BCCL were found to be operating with outdated or incomplete paperwork.

Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan has taken serious note of the issue and directed the department to issue a notice to BCCL, asking for compliance with transport regulations.

These inspections are being carried out through the Online Vehicle Portal, the JIMMS Portal, and on-site physical verification.

“If any discrepancies or outdated documents are found, action will be taken under the Motor Vehicles Act and the Jharkhand Taxation Act,” DTO Dwivedi stated.

BCCL Asked to Submit Complete Vehicle List

The DTO added that the records of several older vehicles under BCCL are missing, leading to difficulties in verification.
To address this, the department has asked BCCL to provide a comprehensive list of all vehicles currently in operation.
The District Mining Department has also been involved to assist in accurately assessing vehicle data.

Revenue Loss Due to Unpaid Road Taxes

The Transport Department has flagged non-payment of vehicle taxes as a major concern, noting that delays are causing substantial revenue loss to the state government.

Currently, around 1,500 transport vehicles and over 85 passenger vehicles are under detailed scrutiny. Vehicles operating without valid fitness certificates or insurance are also being inspected.
The department has announced that recovery of pending road tax dues from these vehicles will begin shortly.
