Daltonganj, June 19: As drive for screening for sickle cell anaemia is on, civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar has offered a homely and most useful prescription for eligible boys and girls going to be wed locked in the coming Lagan.
The prescription is “Match your Kundli as you like. But for your offspring to come, get both of you screened for sickle cell disease. Both of you can’t afford to have this disease. It will make your offspring sickle cell disease positive.”
Dr Anil Kumar added “If either the boy is tested a carrier or the girl a carrier the risk of having offsprings positive for sickle cell disease is absent but in no case boy and girl should be a carrier as then your offsprings are to have sickle cell disease.”
Palamu has a target for 1L screening for the sickle cell disease. It has reached little over 48 per cent of the target.

Dr Anil Kumar said 10 cases have been found positive so far. The number of carriers is 34. 13 other cases are under scrutiny of sickle cell disease, he said.
The test drive will cover schools, KGBAV, JBAV and private schools and institutions too.
New born ones too are to be tested with their drop of blood of the umbilical cord told the civil surgeon.
Medical students of the MMCH have been tested for sickle cell disease, added the civil surgeon.
The continuous heatwave here in Palamu definitely slowed down the pace of the test of sickle cell disease. It is paced up, said the civil surgeon.
As for the Ayushman card civil surgeon said “A fortnight beginning June 15 is on for the left outs to have Ayushman card. Palamu has so far achieved 42 percent of the target of the Ayushman card. It will be further accelerated. I seek cooperation from all the stakeholders.”
