THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK
Daltonganj, June 17: “The war on the narcotics is on. Our police have carried out successful operations against the opioids in the Palamu police zone”, said the IG of police, Palamu zone, Sunil Bhaskar, who chaired a high-level zonal crime review meeting here in Daltonganj on Tuesday.
“We have identified people. We are making people accountable where we find illegal cultivation,” reiterated the IG.
Asked if there has been any single case where forest personnel have been held accountable to which the IG gave a very diplomatic answer, saying, “Accountability is there. There is no escape from it.”

Pending Cases, Smaller Districts See Less Load
Huge cutouts of the chief minister Hemant Soren declaring war on narcotics, urging people to be at bay from it, dot the important cross sections of the roads here in Daltonganj.
IG agreed that smaller districts have a smaller number of cases, and hence the number of pendency is also small.
Latehar district is a smaller district in comparison to Palamu and Garhwa district and here in Latehar, the pendency of cases is far less than these two big districts, out of which Palamu is a very big district and so here is more pendency of cases, added Bhaskar.
Discussion was held on how to wipe out the number of pending cases in reasonable time frame, added the IG.
Firm Stance on Naxal Activity
About Naxals, the IG had a very pragmatic approach when he said Naxals must surrender. They should join the mainstay of life. It’s the most useful course for them.
If Naxals are not disposed towards surrender, then police are neutralising them, he said.
“In the zonal crime review, we discussed the aftermath of the neutralisation of the big heads of the Naxals. We have redrawn our strategy and our plan to further thumb down the Naxals,” Bhaskar said.

Criminals on Bail, Organised Crime Discussed
IG looked serious when he talked about criminals on bail. A proper tracking of criminals on bail was discussed to prevent any of their slippage into the world of crime again.
SP Reeshma Ramesan was very watchful of the queries being lobbed to the IG saying, “There is one scribe here who is striving for some punch line and till he gets the punch line, he does not stop pulling queries.”
Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav had his first experience of Daltonganj journalists’ question-answer session with the top cop.
As the questions were too short but meaningful, IG’s answer or response to those questions was equally too meticulous with clinical precision.
DIG Naushad Alam was very candid when he said, “When the IG is before the battery of newsmen, media’s limelight is invariably on the IG.”
A modest IG Bhaskar got each of the top police officers as close to shoulder by him in the line up as media was briefed standing.
IG asked the mediapersons if they had their lunch. Here DIG Naushad Alam suggested ice creams be offered to the mediapersons while the mediapersons preferred to ask ‘hot’ queries to the IG.
There came the issue of organised crime. There is never a guarantee as to when organised crime will mar the peace and shake the law and order.
IG did answer every question put to him, but he appeared to be following a dictum “art lies in concealing art’ as he left many things unsaid.
