THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Daltonganj, Dec 18: A warm ‘Jan Shikayat Samadhan Karyakaram’ was held in cold winter in Daltonganj.

The town police station was the host for as many as eight police stations besides unit of anti-human trafficking, cyber crime police station etc.

SP Reeshma Ramesan presided over it. SDPO Sadar Mani Bhushan Prasad accompanied the SP while the officers in charge of the various police stations lined up like any Marshall of the event.

For the first 30 minutes, the battery of the police officers just looked around for the commoners.

Transgenders ask for free shelter

Men and women began to trickle in once the SP arrived at the venue. There came a couple of third sex. It was the brain work of the officer in charge of the town police station Deobrat Poddar to invite the third sex.

The third sex asked for free shelter. They asked for ready-to-use house, said the SP.

Reeshma Ramesan said their demand is big and the third sex has so far not given any written request for free housing at the expense of the government.

Action on local issues

There came an issue of an 11KV wire passing over the congested human habitat. The petitioner was given a receipt for his petition received at this programme. Now the police will duly forward this 11KV wire issue to the electricity office here.

SDPO Mani Bhushan Prasad and OC Deobrat Poddar found out a case of passport renewal verification which was done on the spot as it was a renewal case.

A woman wanted SP to ensure an early charge sheet for her husband booked recently in a 2020 criminal case.

Reeshma Ramesan said SDPO Mani Bhushan Prasad is right on it and the charge sheet will soon be filed in the respective court.

The Police’s Jan Shikayat Samadhan Karyakaram cannot be treated as just a civil outreach program like ‘Sarkar Aap Ke Dwar.’ While the latter delivers tangible and measurable results, such as pensions or housing sanctions, the former lacks similar direct outcomes or visible impacts.

Public appreciation for police accessibility

The Jharkhand Story correspondent spoke to a cross section of visitors who welcomed the initiative of the Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta.

The visitors said, “We feel free to communicate with the police. On such a day like this right from OC down to the SP, all rank of the officers wait for us. It’s a big day for us. We feel today that we exist.”

Asked if this kind of interactive session with the police is any indicative of police trying to become friendly with the poor, seven out of 10 said there is definite a beginning to it but there are still miles between the police and the public to traverse together and simultaneously.

There came an interesting case where payment for a scooty robbed the peace of the buyer and seller both. A police official said he is looking into it.
