Dhanbad, July 6: The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad student chapter, has won the prestigious Presidential Award of Outstanding Student Chapter for the year 2024.
An official of IIT ISM said this is the highest honour for a SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers, USA) student chapter and is awarded to only 10% of chapters globally, which are around 400 in number.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a global non-profit organization dedicated to knowledge exchange and advancement within the petroleum engineering community.

Prof Keka Ojha, head of the department (HoD), Petroleum Engineering of IIT (ISM) while appreciating the students said that members of the IITISM Student Chapter have benefited greatly from professional development opportunities by participating in various events such as SPE distinguished lectures, technical webinars, workshop and other which are held throughout the year.
“Students also have the chance to attend fully-sponsored international conferences such as the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC), Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), and Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) (organized in various countries), and to compete in technical competitions like Petrobowl, which enhance their technical skills,” said Prof Ojha.
