Jharkhand News: Principal Judge orders release of five septuagenarian prisoners

Dhanbad, Dec 17: Principal District and Session Judge cum District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Chairman Virendra Kumar Tiwari has directed the Dhanbad jail administration to release five septuagenarian prisoners. The decision came after a detailed inspection of the jail by the high-level team.

Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Madhvi Mishra, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) HP Janardhan, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Aarti Mala, and other senior officials, Judge Tiwari visited the Dhanbad jail.

The team reviewed the conditions of the prisoners and identified five individuals, all over 70 years of age, for release. The team instructed the concerned authorities to take prompt action for their release.

Medical concerns and review of jail facilities

Judge Tiwari also addressed the health concerns of two prisoners suffering from serious illnesses. He directed the jail authorities to immediately send them to a superspecialty hospital for better treatment.

The high-level team also interacted with the prisoners to gather firsthand information about their health, treatment facilities, access to drinking water, meals (breakfast and lunch), and the availability of legal services for their cases.

The inspection also included a review of the jail’s facilities, such as the kitchen, professional training center, library, and meditation center.

Judge Tiwari directed the jail authorities to ensure all facilities are in compliance with jail manuals and provide adequate amenities to prisoners.

Team involved in the inspection

Alongside the Principal District and Session Judge, Civil Judge cum DLSA Associate Secretary Roshan Kumar, 1st Class Judicial Magistrate Hemant Kumar Singh, ADM and Officiating Jail Superintendent Binod Kumar, and other officials participated in the inspection.

This high-level team also included Superintendent of Police (City) Ajit Kumar, DSP Law and Order Naushad Alam, Jail Doctor Dr. Rajiv Kumar Singh, and other DLSA members.
