Dhanbad, Jan 10: The East Central Railway Karmchari Union (ECRKU), Dhanbad division, has begun preparation for contesting poll for Indian railway union recognition directed by the Supreme Court of India.
Giving this information, ECRKU Dhanbad Division media spokesperson NK Khawas today said that general secretary SNP Srivastava, at the first central committee meeting of newly elected ECRKU held in Patna, said that the Supreme Court has directed to hold an election for recognition of the railway union.
Central govt forms committee
The central government has constituted a committee to frame guidelines for election. “So, the general secretary has asked us to prepare for the election,” said Khawas.
Though there are seven registered federations in railway, the Karmchari Union is a recognized union in ECR.

ECRKU president DK Pandey
Earlier, ECRKU president DK Pandey, while addressing the meeting, said that the centenary celebration of the All-India Railway Men’s Federation would be held in Delhi from April 24 to 26. He directed the members to immediately submit the coupon amount to the concerned branch office.
Plea for doctors in hospitals
ECRKU additional general secretary cum Dhanbad Division Permanent Negotiating Machinery (PNM) in-charge Md Ziauddin at the meeting, said that the Union has roped in the management to appoint doctors in hospitals and sorted out fundamental problems at different stations in the division. The Union has also proposed direct entry of critical patients at tied-up private hospitals in emergency.
Assistant organising secretary Om Prakash stressed the need to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level.
ECRKU zonal secretary OP Sharma, SD Mishra, Mithilesh Kumar, KK Mishra, Manoj Pandey, Kedar Prasad, BB Paswanh, Sriram Singh, Bindu Kumar, Sanjay Mandal, Mridula Kumari, Manoj Pandey, Somen Dutta and Netaji Subhash attended the meeting.
