Ranchi, Dec 17: In a case involving the creation of a fake Facebook account of President Draupadi Murmu to commit fraud, Ranchi police have filed an FIR at the Cyber Police Station. Cyber criminals had created a fake Facebook account of President Draupadi Murmu to deceive the public.

A citizen from Jharkhand drew the police’s attention to this issue, after which Ranchi police conducted an initial investigation and then registered an FIR to begin the action.

SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha stated on Tuesday that an FIR has been registered at the Cyber Police Station regarding the case. The URL of the fake ID has been obtained from the concerned individual, and based on that, a thorough investigation is underway.

Hazaribag resident exposes cyber fraud

The case of creating a fake ID of the President was brought to the attention of the Jharkhand and Delhi Police by Mantu Soni, a resident of Hazaribag, Jharkhand.

Mantu Soni mentioned on his X handle that he received a message from an account with the President’s photo, which said, “Jai Hind, how are you?” The cyber criminal behind the profile then stated, “I use Facebook very rarely, please send me your WhatsApp number.”

When Mantu sent his number to the alleged cyber criminal, he received a message on his Facebook Messenger stating, “We have saved your number. We have sent the verification code to your WhatsApp, please send us the code quickly.” Mantu quickly realized that the President would not send such a message.

Ranchi Police takes swift action

Mantu Soni shared the digital evidence with the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Jharkhand Police, and other agencies on X. Upon noticing the post, the SSP of Ranchi immediately sought the complete details from Mantu Soni.

Mantu provided all the details to the Ranchi police, after which a case was registered against the unidentified cyber criminal. The technical cell and the cyber crime branch team are investigating the matter.
