Ranchi, May 1: The Laparoscopic Surgery Department of Ranchi Sadar Hospital conducted a workshop on laparoscopic sterilization on Thursday, aimed at training and educating female government doctors in the technique.

Dr. Ajit Kumar, a senior laparoscopic surgeon at the hospital, led the session and provided participants with detailed information about the procedure. He also offered hands-on training to doctors and paramedical staff.

Following the training, two doctors — Dr. Bandita Singh and Dr. Indu from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology — were selected to carry out the procedure as part of the workshop.

Successful Procedures and Participation

Paramedical staff were also selected to assist in the surgeries. A total of 10 female beneficiaries registered for the program, out of which five were found medically fit to undergo sterilization. The procedure was successfully completed using laparoscopic methods.

Dr. Ajit Kumar highlighted the advantages of the technique, stating, “Laparoscopic sterilization is safe and minimally invasive. Since it involves a small incision, the patient can resume normal activities as early as the next day.” All five patients were found fit for discharge post-surgery.

Praise from Beneficiaries and Families

Family members of one of the patients praised the facilities at Sadar Hospital, claiming the care and services were on par with or better than Ranchi’s corporate hospitals.

The workshop was conducted under the guidance and support of Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Bimlesh Singh, and District Programme Manager (DPM).

Weekly Training Workshops Planned

Dr. Ajit Kumar stated that similar training programs will now be organized on a weekly basis, with a special emphasis on training female doctors in government service.

The success of the sterilization procedures was made possible by the collective efforts of the hospital’s medical team, including anesthetist Dr. Chandan Kumar Jha and OT staff members such as Sisters Sneh Lata, Sarita, Nandini Srishti, Neeraj, Madhav, PSI Santosh, and others.
