“35-year-old woman Pinky Dev who is a resident of Chatakpur, Ranchi, came to the surgery department in November 2023 on suspicion of piles. She complained of bleeding and pain from the stool. On suspicion, we got her colonoscopy and biopsy done by Dr Jayant Ghosh in Sadar Hospital, Ranchi,” Dr Ajit said.
He further said: “The biopsy report revealed cancer (AdenoCarcinoma). After that, the patient was referred to Dr Prakash Bhagat of the Cancer Surgery Department, who conducted a complete examination, in which it was found that the cancer of the colon had reached two and a half to three centimetres close to the mouth of the anus. Then she was given four cycles of chemotherapy, at an interval of two weeks each. After that radiotherapy was also given. The operation could be done after 2 months of radiotherapy, so her operation was successfully done in the last week of May.”
“In this operation, a large part of the large intestine had to be removed, and her excretory passage had to be made through the stomach (COLOSTOMY). The patient is now eating and drinking, and her stoma is working. This operation and chemotherapy were done free of cost under Ayushman Yojana,” he said.
