Jamshedpur, July 10: Jamshedpur is facing an escalating flood threat as both Kharkai and Subernarekha rivers witness a sharp rise in water levels due to relentless monsoon rains for the past few days.

While the Kharkai river has already breached its danger level, the Subernarekha is swiftly approaching the critical mark, prompting an alert across the region.

As per the latest hydrological readings, Kharkai river (Adityapur Bridge point) is flowing at 129.96 metres, exceeding its designated danger level of 129.00 metres.

Subernarekha river (Mango Bridge point) is currently at 120.64 metres, edging close to its danger threshold of 121.50 metres.

Authorities on high alert; rescue teams, shelters on standby

In response to the rising water levels, the district administration has intensified surveillance across low-lying and flood-prone areas, including Mango, Bagbera, Jugsalai, Shastrinagar, and parts of Adityapur. Rescue teams, boats, and temporary shelters have been kept on standby, with constant coordination between disaster management units and civic bodies.

People have been urged to steer clear of riverbanks, remain indoors during heavy downpours, and keep emergency kits ready.

Movement in high-risk zones is being restricted, and precautionary evacuations may be initiated if water levels continue to rise.

With further rain predicted over the next 24 to 48 hours, the administration has reiterated its advisory: Stay cautious, follow official updates, and prioritize safety at all times.
