Daltonganj, August 15: A 28- year old Kanwariya identified as Dilip Kumar Dangi was shot at in the right forearm by road robbers at Kareemati under the Panki police station limits last night.
Dangi and his wife were on their return journey by car from Baba Dham Deoghar to their house at Kumradeeh under the Tarhassi block in Palamu last night when at a vulnerable stretch resembling English alphabet S at Kareemati on Panki -Balumath road, robbers had put up branches of tree to hold up vehicles for loot where this Dangi couple arrived by car only to make a hasty retreat sensing imminent road hold up cum loot, thereupon one of the road robbers fired shot that hit the right forearm of Dangi who was driving the car himself.
The road robbers fired at the tyre too to immobilise the couple. However, Dangi despite bleeding wound and attack on his car managed to drive and reached the community health centre at Balumath under the Latehar district.
The medical officer in charge of the community health centre Balumath Dr Dhruv Satya Mahto told this correspondent today morning, “Dangi reached our centre around 9.05 pm. He was bleeding. There was a bullet injury in his right forearm.”
Dangi was in pain but not panic stricken. His pulse rate was 82 per minute. His BP was normal 120/80 showed his prescription.
Dr Mahto said he was given anti tetanus, anti bleeding and pain relieving shots. Dangi was rushed to the higher centre in Ranchi by 108 ambulance at night itself.
The luckiest part of this patient Dangi was that the bullet that pierced his right forearm had got out itself.
Dr Mahto said, “There was no foreign body left in Dangi. His bullet was out. There were entry and exit wounds that proved the bullet had got out of the body. It will help in faster healing for the wound that Dangi had sustained.”
A senior health official Ved Prakash said the CHC Balumath did a good job at night when this bleeding Kanwariya reached there who was immediately taken care of by the doctor and staff.
Ved Prakash said our CHCs located in Latehar district do provide health care facilities available day and night.
Police sources said Kareemati is highly prone to road hold up and subsequent robbery where when road robbers feel their plan to loot going awry, resort to firing at travellers. Here they did the same.
Sources said about three months back a driver was also shot at here again for loot.
Sources said there is a group of just 5 or 6 youths who indulge in such a crime.
As festive season like Deewali etc is round the corner road hold ups can’t be ruled out.
Kareemati holds road robbery notoriety like the once Patki jungle on the Daltonganj- Ranchi road which was infamous for road robberies.
However, with security post at Patki, this stretch is safe while Kareemati still continues to be a highly risky one.
The topography of the road at Kareemati is more to do to road crimes.
Local police did reach the site and the robbers finding too many lights on which made them understand police’s arrival took to their heels taking cover of the rainy night and jungles around.
