East Bengal Colony Middle School
The East Bengal Colony Middle School holds a poignant history that dates back to the time of independence. After the partition of the country, families of refugees from then East Bengal faced numerous challenges as they arrived in Jamshedpur via Bengal. They settled in a temporary colony, where the East Bengal Colony Middle School was established.
The school catered to both refugee children and children from indigenous tribes. Despite being managed by a trust formed by senior citizens of the colony, the school faced challenges in maintenance and infrastructure development.
School’s renovation
Recognizing the deteriorating condition of the school building and the decreasing number of girls due to the lack of toilets, the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West took a proactive stance. Through crowdfunding, individual contributions and corporate CSR funds, the club embarked on a comprehensive renovation campaign.
The initiative included the renovation of the building, the construction of three new classrooms, the provision of smart class equipment, and the establishment of proper education facilities for students and teachers. Additionally, separate toilets were constructed to address the sanitation needs of the students.
