Dhanbad, July 11: On the occasion of World Population Day, Dhanbad Civil Surgeon Dr. Alok Vishwakarma flagged off the ‘Sarthi Rath’ — a mobile awareness campaign aimed at educating people about the importance of family planning.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vishwakarma said World Population Day is observed to raise awareness about the challenges posed by population growth and its related issues.

“The theme for World Population Day 2025 is ‘Empowering young people to create the families they want in a fair and hopeful world.’ Our goal is to spread awareness in line with this theme,” he added.

The Sarthi Rath will travel across all blocks of the district for the next 30 days, conducting campaigns to promote the benefits of family planning.

Dr. Vishwakarma also informed that family planning services will be made available at all hospitals and health centres in the district as part of this special initiative.

To complement the campaign, a rally of nursing staff was also held, which began from the Sadar Hospital premises and moved through various areas of the coal city, spreading messages on family planning, maternal and child health, and population control. The rally too was flagged off by the Civil Surgeon.
