KUMUD JENAMANI

Jamshedpur, April 10: In a major breakthrough against the Naxals, the police and paramilitary forces on Thursday destroyed as many as five bunkers set up in the Naxal-infested Jeraikela thana area of the West Singhbhum district.

The bunkers had been dug at Kulpaburu jungle under the Jeraikela thana area where an unspecified number of Naxals, including some top leaders like Misir Besra, Anal, Mochu, Sagen Angaria, Anmol, Ajay Mahto, Ashim Mahto, Pintu Lohra, Ashwin, Rapa Munda and Amit Lohra are active.

It is assumed that these rebels belonging to the outlawed outfit CPI-Maoist might have been using those bunkers for hiding after coming overground to commit subversive activities, something rats are known for.

The police and paramilitary forces were prompted to blow up the bunkers one after another after they had stumbled upon the existence of one of such bunkers at the Kulpaburu jungle.

Encouraged by the success in destroying the Naxals’ hiding places, the police and paramilitary forces learned to have stepped up their efforts to find out more such bunkers in the forest cover in Jeraikela and elsewhere in the district by taking the help of local residents who seem to be extremely frustrated due to the presence of Naxals there.

It may be mentioned here that the police and paramilitary forces which have been running the anti-insurgency operation over the past three years had unearthed numerous IEDs as well as arms dumps and camps earlier, but stumbling at Naxals’ bunkers happened for the first time.
