THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK
Daltonganj, August 26: Simdega district police in Jharkhand, under the command of its SP Md Arshi, in its Operation Red Hunt, nabbed 10 accused of crime who were dodging the calendar and clock both over as many years as 12 years to 38 years.
All 10 nabbed had permanent warrants against them. A permanent warrant is called a Red Warrant. These 10 were chronic evaders in the eyes of the law.
The Jharkhand Story correspondent on Tuesday spoke to Simdega SP Md Arshi to find out how he and his team embarked upon such a drive to smoke out the accused living a life in utter disregard of the law of the land.

Cases Spanning Timber Loot to Road Accidents
“These 10, having a red warrant against them, had no inkling of Simdega police reaching them at all. Our team got them unaware. These 10 would now believe the hands of laws are really too long,” added Arshi.
One of the 10 nabbed is Johan Munda. He was evading arrest for the last 38 years. He had looted sawn timber. The Ornga police got him, said SP Simdega.
Asaru Singh was evading arrest for the last 12 years. He was accused of a road accident.
The Operation Red Hunt was carried out in police stations, namely Simdega, Bano, Jaldega, Teethangar, Mahaboaang and Ornga.
These 10 were no ignorant souls. They knew they were duping the police, and the consequences of it were to come as well. And they were not wrong. Simdega police proved them wrong.

Evaders Changed Identities to Escape Law
Some of the 10 had altered themselves by wearing a new identity or by sinking their original identity.
Simdega police had not much about these 10, barring their names, and further, they were growing by their age, as among the 10, it’s one’ decade, two decades and three decades old evaders.
Mukund Mahto was caught in the Op Red Hunt after 17 years. He is accused of extortion. He kept changing his dwelling place!
SP Arshi’s Message to Remaining Evaders
Simdega SP Arshi had had his probation in Palamu, and during the period of his training here, he had made many in the stone quarrying trade lose their sleep. He used to defy time even if it was the dead of night.
The Op Red Hunt has a strong message to all such chronic evaders still nursing a dream to get away from law, but Simdega police are determined to flush them out, and so it’s in their own interest that such wilful evaders present themselves before Simdega police reiterated Arshi as “Our boys have shortened space and time for them now onwards.”
