Daltonganj June 25: After nearly a three-hour stalemate, the medicos finally dispersed, lifting their siege on the medical superintendent, Dr Ajay Kumar, in the Gole Ghar on Wednesday in Daltonganj.
The medicos demanded the removal of the principal Dr P N Mahto accusing him of arbitrary action and decision, excessive oppression and supression of the personal liberty of the medicos and abusing power and authority vested in him to contain and curb the medicos on any flimsy pretext like imposing fine worth rupees 5,000 for not wearing helmet!
The medicos further alleged the principal is revengeful, vindictive and takes pleasure in harassing and mentally torturing medicos.

The medicos wanted revocation of the suspension of their two other medicos and an explanation as to under what circumstances a girl medico intern was detained at the main gate of the medical college last night for around 30 minutes, all for having no due bike pass or logo on it.
The medicos were too improper in launching their demonstration before the chamber of the medical superintendent, Dr Ajay Kumar, as he was not a part of any of the accusations levelled by the medicos against the principal.

Mediators Step In, Students Hold Firm
Dr Ajay Kumar was to push off for practical examinership in a private medical college in Bishrampur and when the medicos squatted before his chamber, he was all caught unaware and got delayed by hours for his assignment in Bishrampur.
Dr Ajay Kumar did try to pacify the medicos, but in vain. There came a well-known surgeon, Dr Sushil Pandey, who tried to prolong the parley with the medicos, but they remained quite adamant about their demand for the removal of the principal and aborted the dialogue session of Dr Pandey.
Dr Pandey was the crisis manager. It was he and Dr Ajay Kumar who took out the major steam of the agitation of the medicos despite not being heard fully by the agitating medicos.
Soon Dr R K Ranjan, a noted physician and Dr D K Jha, a highly respected physician, joined the bandwagon of the negotiators, but the agitating medicos refused to budge an inch.

Principal Yields to Most of the Demands
Then in a sharp turn of event, the principal Dr P N Mahto, appeared before the agitating medicos and faced the barrage of accusations against him. The medicos wanted clear-cut assurances of the principal.
The principal announced the revocation of the suspension of two medical students. He also announced to return the penalty money worth 5,000 rupees to the medicos. The detention of the internship doing girl medico at the main gate of the college last night would not be any more a repeat for other medicos.
The principal also promised the medicos that there would not be any vindictive or penal action against any medico. No medical student will have to fear any action against them for this tirade against the principal.
As for his removal from here, the principal told the mediapersons, “I will be the happiest person if the medical students paved the way for my ouster from Palamu. I will love to walk out of this college.”
However, the principal was uncompromising when he told the agitators, “So long I am here you are to wear helmets. Four among you today are the ones who had helmets on their heads when they met with the accidents.”

Long-Brewing Anger Erupts, Services Partially Affected
The Wednesday agitation was no any abrupt explosion. The medicos were running aggrieved by the principal for long on a myriad of issues. On Wednesday the medicos vented their full ire.
Medical superintendent Dr Ajay Kumar, surgeon Dr Sushil Pandey, Dr R K Ranjan and Dr D K Jha played their cool as any impatient move on the part of any of these could have worsened the situation.
“If the principal is unelastic, the medicos are no less stubborn. The line between the two is bound to be thick and long,” said a faculty member.
The medicos and interns’ agitation saw a partial dislocation of a couple of the OPD services in the MMCH Daltonganj.
