Jharkhand News: Tata Steel employee dies after falling from crane

Jamshedpur, July 6: A Tata Steel employee died in an accidental fall from an overhead crane inside the company premises early on Saturday morning.

Identified as Naresh Prasad (32), the deceased was an NS grade worker and crane operator.

Fellow workers found Naresh after a long time

The mishap took place at about 4.00 am while Naresh Prasad was climbing to the crane installed at a considerable height.

Though no one knew about the fatal fall immediately, he was found lying on the ground in critical condition after fellow workers started a search for him and he remained incommunicable for a long time.

As soon as the victim was found lying critically injured, the safety department officials rushed him to Tata Main Hospital where the doctors on emergency duty declared him as dead.

Company sets up high-level enquiry

The company management has confirmed about the mishap death of one of its employees on the works premises and is learned to have set up a high-level enquiry into the unfortunate incident.

The company management has also condoled the demise of Naresh Prasad and expressed their solidarity with the bereaved family.

The mishap causing the death of the young worker has come as a bolt from the blue for many in view of the high standard of safety measures that the company management follows for keeping the company mishap-free.

A resident of Kadma Main Road, Naresh was the father of two children and had joined the steel major three years ago. His father was also a Tata Steel employee and had got a job in the company in a job-for-job scheme.

A pall of gloom descended in the locality Naresh Prasad would stay in and also in the workers’ circle of the company following the news of his death spreading across the city.
