Jamshedpur, April 22: Tata Steel UISL celebrated Earth Day with sustainable initiative here today.

Jamshedpur’s first Zero Waste Housing Society established

On the occasion of World Earth Day, Tata Steel UISL proudly unveiled its latest initiative in shaping sustainability through the establishment of the Zero Waste Housing Society at Prakriti Vihar, Jamshedpur’s first Zero Waste Housing Society with Biogas Plant, Tree plantation initiative and laying plastic road with a resolute commitment to environmental stewardship under the theme “Planet vs Plastics”.

Tata Steel UISL a Tata Steel subsidiary inaugurated Jamshedpur’s first Zero Waste Housing Society with Biogas Plant, Prakriti Vihar, with the launch of a biogas plant.

Tree plantation drive

Tata Steel UISL organized a mass tree plantation drive and also flagged off a rally to spread awareness across the city on waste management by Ritu Raj Sinha, Managing Director, Tata Steel UISL and Raghunath Pandey, the union president at the ATBCL Site, covering five acres.

This collaborative effort engaged more than 200 NCC cadets, 50 Scouts and Guides cadets and Tata Steel UISL volunteers, aiming to combat carbon emissions and dust pollution.

The initiative saw the planting of 2500 saplings, including species like Bamboo, Alstonia, Karanj, and Teak, covering 33% of the area.

Reuse of plastic in road construction

Tata Steel UISL is committed to the reuse of plastic in road construction, utilizing plastic waste to replace asphalt materials partially or entirely.

Their project at Domuhani Junction to Dobo Roundabout, spanning 550 meters, utilized 1.659 metric tons of waste plastic.

The total length of plastic road made by Tata Steel UISL is about 12 km. Plastic roads offer advantages like better binding, water resistance, higher softening point, temperature resilience, and lower cost compared to traditional bitumen roads.

The benefits of these initiatives are multifaceted, encompassing renewable energy generation, waste reduction, cost efficiency, community engagement, and environmental improvement. Tata Steel invites all stakeholders to join in celebrating a greener, cleaner and more sustainable future.
