Jharkhand News: Tata Zoo announces birth of two tiger cubs

Jamshedpur, Dec 30: Tata Steel Zoological Park, Jamshedpur, has announced the birth of two healthy tiger cubs, marking a moment of immense joy and pride for the zoo and the city. The cubs were born to Meghna, the resident tigress, on November 27, 2027, during the daytime.

Meghna was named by wildlife enthusiasts from Jamshedpur through a public naming contest organised by the zoo. However, in line with established zoo protocols and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both the mother and her cubs, the birth was not announced immediately.

“We are pleased to inform that both cubs are now stable and doing well, and are under continuous monitoring by the zoo’s veterinary and animal care teams,” said a zoo official.

The cubs’ father is Rudra, whose name was also selected by the public through the same naming contest. Both Meghna and Rudra were brought to Tata Steel Zoological Park from the Rescue Centre at Gorewada, Nagpur, and are of wild origin.

Continuing its tradition of community participation, the zoo will soon launch another naming contest, inviting the citizens of Jamshedpur to name the newest members of the tiger family. Winners will be duly recognised and awarded.

The entire zoo family has expressed delight at this significant development, particularly as no tiger births have taken place at the zoo for a considerable period. The arrival of the cubs marks an important milestone and reinforces the zoo’s commitment to wildlife conservation and animal welfare.
