Gumla, Sept 24: A fierce encounter took place on Wednesday morning between the Gumla police and Naxals of the JJMP (Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad) extremist group in the Kechki forest area under Bishunpur police station.

In the gunbattle, the Jharkhand police team killed three insurgents, identified as Lalu Lohra and Sujit Uraon from Senha in Lohardaga, and Chotu Uraon from Hoshir in Latehar.

According to officials, Gumla SP Harish Bin Jama received information that some JJMP extremists had gathered in the Bishunpur area to plan a major incident. Acting on the intelligence, a joint team of Jharkhand Jaguar and Gumla district forces was formed.

During the search operation, as the police team entered the Kechki forest, the insurgents opened fire. The police responded with return fire, resulting in three Naxals being killed and one insurgent being arrested.

SP Harish Bin Jama stated that rifles and firearms were recovered from the deceased insurgents, including one 56 rifle, one SLR, and one INSAS rifle. The security forces continue to conduct a search operation in the forest, which remains ongoing.
