Ranchi, February 20: Three State-owned universities secured around Rs 140 crore under PM USHA (Uchchatar Siksha Abhiyan) today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the fund through video-conferencing.
These universities are Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag (Rs 99.79 crore), while Nilambar Pitamber University (NPU), Daltonganj and Kolhan University (KU), Chaibasa received Rs 20 crore each.
Vinoba Bhave University
The programme was held in Vivekananda Auditorium. The Prime Minister launched programmes like Multidisciplinary Education and Research University and the digital empowerment of universities.
Minister of State for Higher Education Annapurna Devi was present in the Vinoba Bhave University programme.
MP Jayant Sinha and MLA Manish Jaiswal were also present. Vice Chancellor Suman Catherine Kispotta, all officials, deans of faculty, heads of departments, directors, teachers, non-teaching staff, and students were also involved in the digital inauguration programme organised by PM Usha.
The university will be developed as a teaching and research centre with this grant amount. Registrar Dr M Alam said that the grant amount will be spent on the departments and courses running on the current campus of Vinoba Bhave University.
NPU Daltonganj
Meanwhile, Nilamber Pitamber University has been granted Rs 20 crores under Pradhan Mantri USHA (Uchchatar Siksha Abhiyan).
It’s a Government of India scheme. It’s different from RUSA, but PM USHA is a continuation of RUSA.
Secretary of Higher Education Department Rahul Kumar Purwar sent a message to the VCs of the three universities given funds under the PM USHA to make adequate arrangements on campus on the occasion of its digital launch today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched these three here in Jharkhand and other projects across India.
Acting VC NPU Dr Tapan Kumar Shandilya said: “Express directions were given to the registrar of the Nilamber Pitamber University, Dr Mirtunjay Kumar, to make suitable arrangements for the video conferencing ceremony in the campus of the GLA college where PM’s digital launching of it can be viewed in the virtual classroom.”
“This Rs 20 crore grant is a great thing. It is to strengthen the university. It will help improve our facilities for the students,” said Mritunjay Kumar.
Funds to improve infrastructures
Acting VC NPU Dr Tapan Kumar Shandilya said, “There is always room for improving the infrastructures, and this university, which came into functioning in 2009, still has many teething issues. We will strengthen our university with this benevolence under the Pradhan Mantri USHA.”
PM USHA
PM Usha grant money is being given to Indian universities under Multidisciplinary Education and Research Universities and the empowerment component of universities.
78 universities have been selected from all over India. In this, approval to give a grant amount of Rs 12926.10 crore was given in the meeting of the Project Approval Board on 17 and 18 February 2024.
